Holstein Kiel, known as "Die Störche" (The Storks), is based in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, and traces its roots back to 1900. They were a powerhouse in northern German football throughout the early 20th century, winning the German championship in 1912 and featuring regularly in first-division play before the Bundesliga's formation in 1963.
